SC6: RAPID DIAGNOSTICS FOR ANTIMICROBIAL STEWARDSHIP

Instructors:

Jennifer Dien Bard, PhD, D(ABMM), Director, Microbiology and Virology, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; Associate Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California

April Abbott, PhD, D(ABMM), Director, Microbiology, Deaconess Health System

Amanda Harrington, PhD, Associate Professor, Pathology; Medical Director, Microbiology, Loyola University Medical Center

Arlington

Course Description:

In recent years, emerging technologies have expedited the reporting of susceptibility results directly from clinical specimens. Approaches to rapid phenotypic and genotypic susceptibilities testing will be provided. Cases will be used to illustrate the benefits and pitfalls of genotypic and phenotypic susceptibility testing. Implementation and interpretation of susceptibility results to maximize clinical impact will be discussed.

Course Outline:

Rapid Genotypic Susceptibility Testing of Bacteria

Jennifer Dien Bard, PhD, D(ABMM), Director, Microbiology and Virology, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; Associate Professor, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California

Rapid Phenotypic Susceptibility Testing of Bacteria

Amanda Harrington, PhD, Associate Professor, Pathology; Medical Director, Microbiology, Loyola University Medical Center

Application of Rapid Susceptibility Testing in the Clinical Setting

April Abbott, PhD, D(ABMM), Director, Microbiology, Deaconess Health System
